Blaenau Gwent is a county borough in the South of Wales with a population of over 69,000 in an area of 67 sq miles. Blaenau Gwent borders on Torfaen to the east, Caerphilly to the west and Powys to the north. Blaenau Gwent is one of the smallest boroughs in Wales and the UK as a whole.
The main towns in Blaenau Gwent are Abertilly, Tredegar, Trephilly, Brynmawr and Ebbw Vale.
Blaenau Gwent is not famous as both part of the Industrial Revolution due to its sizable deposits of coal and minerals and the development of the modern railway.
Blaenau Gwent has always had extensive involvement in the Labour movement with many important Labour politicians activist coming from the region such as ex Labour leader Neil Kinnock and founder of the National Health Service Aneuin Bevan. |
