 | About Argyll and Bute |
|
Argyll and Bute is a seaside county of the West coast of Scotland with over 3,000 miles of coastline with a population of only 91,000, making it one of the least populated areas of the UK.
Helensburgh is the largest settlement in Argyll and Bute and it lies on the North of the Firth of Clyde and is both a holiday resort for nearby Glasgow and a commuter town for Glaswegian workers.
Fingal’s Cave is a unique rock formation on the island of Staffa formed by lava flowing upward leaving vertical pillars with regular rock formations on top giving an unforgettable echo due to the Cathedral dimensions of the cave. The area has been celebrated in poems, classical music and prose since the middle ages. Fingal means ‘white stranger’ in Gaelic and comes from the Celtic hero of the same name.
Loch Lomond is an evergreen tourist destination both for Scots and foreign tourists, with a beautiful lake, water sports, hotels and attractions. |
