Lincolnshire is a large county on the East coast of England with borders on Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire. Large in land mass (2,678 sq miles making it the second largest in England), Lincolnshire has a virtual absence of large towns and busy habitations; the largest towns are Lincoln, Boston, Grantham, Spalding and Stamford.
Lincoln is a town in Lincolnshire with a population of 87,000 and the main town in the region. The town is known as a Cathedral town and has history going back as far as the Viking invasions of the 5th century. The present Lincoln Cathedral dates from 1185 however a building has been on the site since 1092 when original Lincoln Cathedral burned down. The present building stands (with the giant spire on top) around 525 feet high making it the tallest in Europe.
Boston has over 35,00 inhabitants and is best known historically as being one the starting places of the Pilgrim Fathers who sailed in the Mayflower to the East of the North American continent naming a much more populous area of the now USA ie Boston, Massachusetts.
