About Blackburn with Darwen

Blackburn with Darwen is a region in Lancashire in the North West of England containing Blackburn and the smaller town of Darwen to the south. The population of Blackburn with Darwen is just over 140,000, with 100,000 living in Blackburn alone.

Blackburn is positioned to the north of 90 miles of moorland and stunning scenery called the West Pennine Moors which contains a water reservoir for the surrounding area.

Blackburn is famed for its textile trade and the role it played in the Industrial Revolution in the late 1800s, other present industries include dairy and livestock. Flemish Dutch settlers brought the techniques and workforce to start a revolution in textile manufacturing to Blackburn in the 15th century, however with the decline in traditional industries this has been replaced by shopping and other service industries.
