About Bath and North East Somerset

Bath and North East Somerset is a unitary authority created in 1996 covering part of Somerset that contains Bath as its main town and contains some suburbs of Bristol. Often the name is often shorted to BANES. Bath and North East Somerset contains important Iron Age monuments and stone circles which are popular tourist and historical sights.

Bath is seen as one of the most Romanised towns in England and this small town was much expanded during the Roman occupation and was renowned as a spa resort during the 18th century.

Bath and North East Somerset covers over 220 sq miles of mostly green belt land including the Mendip Hills and the Cotswold Hills.
